Chapter Herstory

In 1993, eight strong Hispanic leaders founded Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc. on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona.  By 2012, Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc. had reached different cities in different states in different parts of the country.  The organization had excelled in promoting a higher education from women of all colors, mentoring the youth, building the individual leader, and providing lifelong support systems.  Women of all backgrounds wore the letters of Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc. across the nation.

The state of New Mexico had not heard of such sorority until a group of interested ladies introduced it to the University of New Mexico.  Many tried, but only five ladies at the university had the strength, determination, and passion to establish the groundwork of Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc. in their home state.  These five ladies: Kayla Martinez, Andrea Garibay, Magdalena Patena, Bianca Rivera, and Whitney White, had the same vision has the eight national founders; a vision to create a sisterhood based on the pillars of Honesty, Integrity, Leadership, Scholarship, and Unity that would provide a support system and home to women, promote higher education, and enrich their community by mentoring the youth and volunteerism.

Five interested ladies continued the legacy as the Charter line; Tanya Ahmed, Mary Romero, Kristin Sanchez, Esmeralda Reyes, and Jacqueline Cano-Errecart. Together, the ten ladies established themselves at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  On the blessed evening of September 7, 2012, these ten ladies officially become the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Gamma Alpha Omega Sorority, Inc.
